GROUP INTERVIEW & REFLECTION ON PEER ASSESSMENT
The interview helped me to understand the group(peer) assessment is the process of reflection rather than simple evaluation. Not only to evaluate the contribution of each member but also to find the weakness we need to improve. Thinking about how to bridge the knowledge and experience gap between my groupmates and me is the intention of the assessment, improve personal ability. In particular, looking for how your personal contribution leads to the flourishing of the groups’ work in general.
What I learned from the experienced teammates was the method they break the work down and the fitness of a larger scheme of group work. Assessment is inevitable in the career, but how to get positive feedback from each evaluation is the most important.

Many thanks to everyone!

PERSONAL REFLECTION
The group interview was a great chance to look back on the whole course. Although online discussion limited the implementation of many complex ideas, all members have worked together to achieve the specific goal.
I believe that our group already has the qualities of a successful team. We communicated openly with each other, sharing thoughts, opinions, and ideas with members of the team; as well as taking into consideration what others have to say. Also, each member of the team is getting their work completed efficiently. Regretfully, we did not communicate openly with some registered landscape architects or interested external groups.
As to myself, the lack of practical experience is one of my drawbacks, but the course has made me understand the complete process needed for the implementation of a project, in addition to the design. I think that this course has encouraged me to try different characters in my future career.

ASSIGNMENT REVIEW
Mr.Barry pointed out some important matters related to contents and format.
We need to be careful to use salutation names and valedictions since they are related to your first impression. As the proverb says" Particulars determine success or failure".
It is worth mentioning that, the personal story to demonstrate my motivation and experience after a basic introduction would have vast significance.

SURVEY OF “BARRY WILSON PROJECT INITIATIVES”
We are required to submit a sample “Letter of Application for Employment” that shall clearly highlight the applicant’s professional background, ability and apply intention. Research on the recruitment company is the key to ensuring that the application letter can impress the employer.

Research on different projects of BWPI so that confirms what applicants' quality and ability are the firm needs in their projects

The BWPI follows closely to sustainability, planning, landscape, and environment. Their client groups cover professional consultancies, government, real estate, and design and construction consultancy firms.
WeChat Official Account Platform becomes more and more important for us to get some cultural information and perspectives of the intended firms, and we can even leave a message to post our thoughts and interact with the author.

JOB WORKSHOP & IN-CLASS WRITING WORKSHOP
The brainstorming about preparation, application, and interview of the employment. Most of the students put forward that the three essential considerations we need know before application, personal superiority(What qualities the firms are looking for?), right location and survey of the recruitment firms(Who is going to hire me?). What experience I have is more important than my potential.

Our group members were trying to finish an application letter template in class, although the template was very immature, but the first attempt always meaningful.
Actually, this cover letter template is informal with some formatting issues.

CLASS SESSION
Thanks for Barry made a short film to help us understand what roles are involved in delivering a project.
A site visit carried out by the Urbis team, Francisco broadcast lives for us their ongoing restoration project-South East New Territories (SENT) Landfill and Extension. This is an interesting project that has some overlap with the case study of (NENT) Landfill from my last semester. I was glad to see the showcase of different phases of restoration and various contracts.

LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE CONTRACT
Latent defect in plants: (1)Lots of pests in the rootball. (2)trees with small rootballs or planting too deep. (3) Poor workmanship or material.
The EP and DLP generally are 12 months, the housing authority in HK made it longer to 2 years, but most government contracts are 12 months./ Domestic garden is one month.
The EP and DLP of tree transplanting are 1-2 years.

This video discusses how using a landscape maintenance contract can help you avoid problems in the landscaping business.

CLASS SESSION
Before the class sharing, "Procurement" is a totally unfamiliar conception for me. It is a very complex investment process, contenting contracting, purchasing, sourcing and tendering, also the procurement bridging the gap between design in mind and builds in reality.

They compared three different procurement methods through the dialogue of a graduate and PM. The working scenario show was attracted me to make understanding the advantages and disadvantages of the three procurement works intently.
-The traditional or conventional procurement method has been standard practice in the construction industry for many years.
The Lump Sum Contracts: It requires the production of a complete set of design documents before tenders are invited, so it requires a longer period to complete the project. And the contract sum is determined before construction work is started.
The Remeasurement Contract is the most popular type of contract used in the former construction industry. In this method, the companies will receive the payment based on actual work. Compared to other procurement methods, the client’s risk is much higher.
The Cost-reimbursement Contract is paid for all of its allowed expenses to a set limit, plus additional payment to allow for a profit. Cost- reimbursement contracts contrast with a fixed-price contract, in which the contractor is paid a negotiated amount regardless of incurred expenses.
-Design and Build procurement
-Construction Management Procurement
MINI QUIZ 3
In fact, I found myself particularly unclear about the responsibilities and obligations of the different team members.

The correct answer is C.
There are 3 main essential criteria when determining if a contract exists: First is the intention to Create Legal Relations, second is the payment. Finally, It's must be an agreement (offer and acceptance)
Through the quiz, I have understood which kind of additional services will not be included in the fee proposal:
-Drone Survey, Land Survey, Soil Investigation, Tree Survey, Ecology Survey, Irrigation design, Tree Risk Assessment, and Building Plan Submission.

Moreover, the quantity surveyor on the project, the duty of them is to provide the bills of quantity and the initial landscape budgets to the project, the schedules of rates and quantity.

CLASS SESSION
The sharing topic of the red team is "Winning a project". The sharing of the red team is more like a drama performance, especially the host, who made this live show attractive. They reserved enough time for us to answer, which was not implement by many previous teams.

It was effectively interpreted the three dominating types of project contracts in one slide. And what kind of tendering should be selected in different situations.

Using the government (public) consultancy practice as the case to explain how is tendering works in Hong Kong. I like their presentation mode which is very concise.
-OFFICE VISITE (BLEND)

They introduced their project process. How they manage the project from initiation, planning, and execution to closure.
Very practical sharing, this is an essential compulsory lecture for designers who are about to graduate
The method of managing the project of different scale. Understanding the differentiation of management methods is useful to handle the basic works.

-GLOSSARY
We summarized all relevant glossaries and attach remarks. This helps us to review the research content and define what is the key point of land use planning and development control.

-RESEARCH SHARING (MY TEAM)
Learning objective:
a. To understand the statutory framework in Hong Kong to balance the development and control in various construction projects with different landscape projects
b. To understand different necessary statutory actions in different stages throughout construction projects.
We presumed that we are the registered landscape architects and set up a landscape consulting firm. Three developers want to buy some pieces of land in Tung Chung for development. But they are not very familiar with the relevant laws and regulations. So they came to our company for advice.
The client plans a tent camping ground in Lantau North Country Park, what should we do?
Land use approval (Initial planning stage)
Check the Outline Zoning Plan (Town Planning Board)
Check the hierarchical urban planning
(Urban Master Planning and Regulatory Detailed Planning )
Check the Country Parks Ordinance
Check the other environmental control ordinance
Land lease Checking (Before the construction)
Check the land lease (landscaping clause & tree preservation clause )---Submission to DLO

Landscape Master Plan (LMP) Clause
Simple Landscape Clause
Until LMP is approved by DLOs or by PlanD,the tent camping ground is not approved to commence landscape works.

Processing procedures for TPRP
-Tree Felling
-Tree Preserved
-Compensatory Planting Plan
-Compliance Checking of Project (After the project implement )
The client appoints RLA to certify that the proposal has been implemented in accordance with the approved LMP, then submit a Self-Certificate of Compliance (SCC) to LandsD.

All the necessary statutory actions in different stages throughout construction projects to make sure the project in compliance
-MINI QUIZ 2
The quiz set up many specific scenarios to allow us to think about the issues and obligations that need to be considered in the project contractual process
Understanding which government maintenance department would be matched the landscape area, and the right description of the private company, partnership and a sole proprietorship.
The processing of Landscape Submissions will involve different departments, which is easy to confuse(PlanD and LandsD).

-MINI QUIZ 1
The quiz covering the knowledge from the three topics we have learned.
This quiz helped me to reflect that I ignore some basic knowledge of the liabilities of professional landscape architects. And it made up for part of the pivotal missing content in research sharing.
-CLASS SESSION
I think the interview session is the most effective sharing because we got the knowledge from some professional practitioner rather than Twitter or articles, especially some of the interviewees are the lecturer of HKD DLA.
04/02/2021
-CLASS SESSION
Through the form of tv show game, It was easy to understand the responsibility and professional liabilities of a landscape architect.

-VIRTUAL OFFICE VISIT OF EARTHASIA
The virtual office visit is relatively general since I was looking forward to the feedback from others in the project team on how to be a professional landscape architect.

-INTRODUCTION
We have the formal self-introduction section among teammates, even we are familiar with each other, this discussion also provides a chance to know the professional background of my teammates.
Meanwhile, we discussed how to construct the research sharing slides, since the topic “Development and Control” have numerous ordinances and guidances relating to Landscape Architects, we preferred to compare two specific cases between the Mainland and Hong Kong.
