Week 1/ Session 1
21 Jan. 2021
Today is the first day to have this course. Because of novel coronavirus, we could have lesson just on the zoom, so until 9:30, the time for the class beginning, there are still many classmates are not attend to the zoom. Thus Barry emphasizes the importance of “timing”, especially when we have some important meetings or interviews. It is polite to get prepared and arrive 10 minutes earlier than scheduled.

Then Barry introduced the course outline and the objective of it. To get ready for later sessions, we divided into 7 groups based on a unique way. We recommend 7 classmates as group leaders and each of them choose 1 friend as a member, then other classmates grouping as 3 people small groups and decided group name utilized color. Finally, Barry grouped these two types of groups as a 5-member-group for the latter sessions. Through this method, we learned that in the most circumstances, we could not always work with people who we like.
Week 2/ Session 2
28 Jan. 2021
In the last class, I grouped with Sabrina CHAU, Pearl SO, YU Yan and HU Xueling as orange group and in this class, we are asked to do 2 minutes simple self-introduction, but in a little different way. We first record our self-introduction and then sent it to one of our team members. After listening other’s introduction, we need to repeat the content of it.
Our group chose the first topic of “are you a landscape architect” and we discussed what we should do and what work should be divided during our group meeting. Sabrina and Pearl suggested that we could design a question and answer game which could let every classmate to join in.
Week 3/ Session 3
4 Feb. 2021
Our team: orange team is the host of today’s presentation. We do the preparation in advance and also have several group discussions to make sure there is no problem happened during our presentation. But, there is a pity that for each of question we prepared, not all the classmates engaged in, just several of them join our interaction positively.

After presentation, Barry discussed with us and said to get HKILA membership and to be a landscape architecture is not the finial target, we also have a plenty of job chances to choice.
Week 4/ Session 4
11 Feb. 2021
This week’s presentation is given by blue team; the topic is “where do you work”. This topic interested me a lot because I am curious about how it works with our subject related job in Hong Kong.
Blue group also started to introduce by a small game with 6 cute characters. Each character is responsible for introducing one work area. Such as work in LDI in mainland China, real estate companies or private design studios.

Week 5/ Session 5
25 Feb. 2021
After Chinese New Year Festival it is turn to purple group presentation. Their group topic is “you are the boss”, mainly about how to operate the company. This is quite unfamiliar for me. I never thought if I could be a boss to run a company.

The purple group interviewed 5 companies about company running and other questions. Some bosses they interviewed are just our teachers, so during interview we feel familiar with them.
The bosses need to not only think of finance, but also do the staff management and other plenty of works. Maybe it is too hard for me to be a boss……
Week 6/ Session 6
4 Mar. 2021
White group team gives us the presentation of “develop or control”. This is more about the Hong Kong government work of land management and development works. I first know there are so many departments do the works of planning and development. And each of these authorities has very detailed division with what part of place or works is belong to which department. To be honest, I confused of latter small quiz of this part, it is a little complicated.

Week 8/ Session 7
18 Mar. 2021
The topic “winning a project” is provided by red team. It is about how to select a consultant, forming a contract, consultancy agreement and payment terms. They use a plenty of flower chart to show how these part works. It is quite strange for me and I never thought it can be so complex.

Week 9/ Session 8
25 Mar. 2021
“Organizing a project” is the topic from green group. They introduced the process of how to organize a project and also what departments should tack responsible to their works. Organizing a project is a quite difficult and complicated thing. The leader needs to coordinate every section and select appropriate cooperative partners.

Week 10/ Session 9
1 Apr. 2021
The last team presentation is given by pink team; the topic is about “awarding a project”. In this week, we have an inside view with Urbis Company with their big restoration project’s introduction. What impressed me the most is they not just do the design of that restoration place, but also think carefully of latter maintaining. This project started in 1998 and will continue for about 20 years. And also we have the chance to have a look at what they now doing in that outdoor place. They gave a simple introduction of what they usually work with plants and how they think about of their works. It is an impressed experience for me, but with a little pity because we just could see it online.
