Zoom meeting with Ringo Lee from Earthasia

Ringo introduced the project types that Earthasia now participated in and also the typical work stage briefly.

Regarding setting up an office, it is not easy at all, it requires a number of people to make an effort in it. Ringo introduced the organisation structure of Eathasia to us.

After the session, I got to know more about how to get HKILA professional membership and it is not easy at all since it requires the 2 year local working experience and we need to get a pass on the examination. However, for people without HKILA professional membership, they could still participate a lot in the design aspect and be promoted in the firm.

“You are the boss” The performance of the purple team is impressive, I love their work. The content of their presentation includes a lot of workplace issues that I have never thought of before like how to obtain the initial capital and the marketing strategies as well.

Develop or control?

I have jotted down some notes during the class on 0304. To sum up, what the white group introduces to us today is the component of Conservation and Environmental Protection and Land Use Planning and Development Control.

The white group first talked about the definition of the outline zoning plan first. Outline Zoning Plan (OZP) which shows the land use zones, development restrictions, and major road systems of an individual planning area. Areas covered by OZPs are in general zoned for uses such as residential, commercial, industrial, green belt, open space, government, institution or community uses, or other specified uses.

And then, they talk about the definition of the country parks ordinance. The Country Parks Ordinance provides a legal framework for the designation, development, and management of country parks and special areas. It provides for the establishment of the Country and Marine Parks Board to advise the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation on all matters related to country parks and special areas.

By then, they also introduced us to the responsibilities of AMO and the assessment they carried out.

20210314 The Second Group Meeting (KY, Yuchan, Ray , Anya and me)

We had our second zoom meeting and tried to share some new thoughts and the information we found for our group presentation. After our discussion, we decided to divide our presentation into three parts. The first part will focus on the definition of procurement and what it actually is. Why is procurement important? And what factors may affect the procurement process? The second part will introduce the three most common types of procurement methods as well as their advantages, disadvantages, and risks, with the help of cartoon animation. The third part will use the form of a quiz to encourage our classmates to interact with, and we will then try to introduce the features of procurement in Hong Kong.

The Third Group Meeting (KY, Yuchan, Ray , Anya and me)

This time our group finally had a face-to-face discussion at the studio since we think that the communication will be more effective and efficient if we can share our new ideas in-person.

I have shared my new thoughts about the storyline of the cartoon animation we would like to show in our group presentation. And below is the sketch drawn by me. In the group presentation, I am going to introduce the outline, key features, as well as advantages and disadvantages of the traditional procurement method. And it will consist of four different scenes that talk about the definition of the traditional procurement method, the tendering process, the relationship between stakeholders, and the pros and cons respectively.

She explained the process of planting trials on site to us. The first step will be design on drawing so as to confirm the planting scheme and the planting species. Then it will be the design set up on site and the shrubs to be planted in the first year. After that, the workers need to install a weed mat so as to prevent soil erosion.

Notes Taken:

• Provide a method statement as well as detailed drawings to describe how the planting will be done.

• Native and exotic shrubs are used to encourage the growth of native trees on site.

• Planting trial ( the purpose is to collect the data on the performance of the plant.)

• Establishment Inspection ( measure the plant height and their health condition. The purpose is to ensure the plant is successfully established.)

For me, the discussion and suggestions from Barry are super useful for my job interview in the future, it enables me to be more aware of the do and don't in the job application and interview process.

Warm reminders given by Barry

-Typographical error should be avoided. -Mind the level of formality while writing your job application letter.

-Try to conclude the relevant information in your letter. Information that is irrelevant to the job position should be avoided.

-Once the Human Resources department receives your application letter, they will first evaluate you based on your academic background and other qualifications. Portfolio will not be evaluated by them.

- Make good use of your connections E.g If you know someone who works inside the company, try to contact them and if they can refer you for the position directly.

Candidates should prepare questions to ask their future employers before the job interview. The question should reflect your suitability, adaptability and flexibility to the job position. Should be more personal to yourself and show your understanding of the current development of the company.

In my opinion, the comment column is quite useful, especially when the performance of my teammates is close to each other. The ranking can hardly evaluate the actual contribution/ commitment/ skill/ reliability of the teammates.
