Final interview!

Barry mainly discussed the peer assessment with our group. Thank for all the suggestions he gave. It will be very helpful for our future work.

Thank you, Yun, she is the best team leader. She always assumes the responsibilities of team leader, including communicating with teachers and other teams and leading everyone to complete tasks. Thank you, Ada, she is very efficient in completing the task every time. Thank you, Karen, her part was accidentally deleted when we prepared the ppt, but she did not complain and re-completed it very well. Thank you, Kevina, I can’t complete the final video without your help. I love the blue group. Thanks to everyone, we have successfully completed all the assignments for this course!

Group meeting, discussed about the final interview assignment and according to the prompts given by Barry, the answers that may be needed are listed, and the advantages and disadvantages of this course are discussed.

27/04/2021

Shared my thoughts about the peer assessment with Barry, thank him for his patient response and answers. I understand that peer assessment is a way for us to conduct self-reflection and review the entire learning process. Only when we criticize, we can make progress. In the evaluations that I may encounter in future work, I will perform more professionally according to his suggestions.

I got my best result in the final big test! Thanks to the friends who discussed with me!

I uploaded my final writing and wrote a cover letter to Barry’s company, but it seems that I got the point wrong. I thought I was writing to show what I contributed in this course and my own understanding of the course. But in Barry’s evaluation and feedback on this assignment later, I understand that should wrote a letter to apply for a job and an interview opportunity and there a lot of points I should pay attention to, like introduce your strengths realistically, focused and organized, have some understanding of the company you are applying for, but don’t need to over-praise, etc. Perhaps it would be better for Barry to give a brief introduction to the assignment requirements before assigning each assignment.

Each group had a group discussion and wrote a cover letter.

The last sharing class: Deliver a project!

This class is host by Barry. Each team acted as a different department in the process of signing the project contract and guided everyone to work together to complete a project. The video made by Barry is very interesting. (He really has a lot of hats! lol) The student's participation in the whole process is very high, but in fact, sometimes I feel a little confused because I don’t know what to do.

The seventh sharing class: Awarding a project!

The sharing of the pink group is also based on explanations and questions and answers. Tender is also a link that I have not understood before. As always, it is much more complicated than I thought. From document preparation, to the tender method and process, and the final contract signing, the pink team explained the whole process to us very well.

The company coming today is Urbis, their sharing is also very useful, because they used a lot of actual cases and actual photos to tell us the completion process of a project.

This slide impressed me most because we are in contact with the design and drawing stages at the current position, but this picture shows us how the drawings are actually built.

The sixth sharing class: Organizing a project!

The green group helped us understand the themes they shared through many animation demonstrations. It was really useful and interesting. I became a volunteer in their last quiz. Although I lost to zijing, I thought it was very interesting to be able to participate in this game.

Just like bidding, organizing a project is also a very complicated process. Although I still don’t fully understand how to do it in the actual situation, I think these sharings did prepare me to face the job.

We had the last mini quiz today and I got the worst score in the three quiz… T T But Barry said it’s ok and the most important thing is to participate in this process, and what have you learned during the participation. As I said before, I have never experienced it, so it’s all on paper, so I don’t know how to solve a lot of problems when doing the quiz. Fortunately, there are detailed explanations for each topic on the moodle, thank you Barry!

The fifth sharing class: Wining a project!

The sharing of the red group is also carried out in the form of answering questions. Zijing as the host is very interesting. Before I fully understand, I know that bidding is a very complicated process. After listening to today’s sharing class, I have become more aware of how complicated it is to win a project. Every step of the choice and cooperation between various parts are very critical. I think one of the shortcomings of their group is that most of the slides are composed of a lot of text, which will be boring to understand, but this is also inevitable, because this is a topic that needs to be explained with a lot of content.

The inside view today is Chen from another company. He introduced us to the general process of project management, which is like a supplement to the previous red group sharing class. He combined some previous projects to answer a lot of questions for us. I benefited a lot and it’s really amazing that there are so many questions to consider before starting a project.

04/03/2021

The fourth sharing class: Develop or control?

The third group’s sharing was also very interesting. By choosing three simulated venues in Hong Kong and a series of questions and answers, the white group shared with us many protection or development issues that may be encountered during the project progress.

Among them, I am most interested in the part about protected plants, because I am very interested in plants, and at the same time I want to know how the protected plants in Hong Kong are different from those in the mainland.

Also, we finished the second quiz about the first four topic and got another 6.1…

Most of the questions are very detailed, I should pay more attention to some small point.

Updated the website with the presentation of our group.

The third sharing class: You are the boss!

The sharing of the purple group is mainly composed of interview videos. They spent a lot of time interviewing our teachers and the founders of some famous landscape design companies. Starting from setting up an office, becoming a boss requires a lot of work, including financial management, personnel management, risk assessment, etc. Before this, I have never understood the things that need to be prepared for starting a business, because I think being a boss is a difficult thing, even so, this sharing still gave me a lot of inspiration.

Today, we also finished the first quiz about the first three topic and got 6.1 out of 10.

When I was doing the quiz, I thought that some of the questions were more subjective. After listening to the teacher’s explanation, I felt that it was reasonable.

11/02/2021

The second sharing class: Where do you work?

It’s our show time! Becoming a teacher is really a very effective way of learning. By looking up information and looking through the homework of the previous sessions, I have a lot of understanding of our sharing class. My favorite part is that in the end we interviewed a lot of seniors and made a video. The seniors are very friendly and gave us a lot of useful suggestions. I hope that it can also help everyone. Happy Year of the Ox!

10/02/2021

Finish the video for the presentation after collecting the interview audio collected by the team members. According to three questions: What is your first job after graduation? What do you think of this job? And what is your current job, come to arrange the order of the video, at the end, edit the part of the suggestion in the interview together, I hope to collect some ideas for our classmates about the future career direction.

08/02/2021

Group meeting, organize ppt logic, modify errors, and improve content.

06/02/2021

Interview with people walk in real estate agency, financial management company and some individual artist, all of them have the background of landscape architect and changed careers within a few years after graduation.

04/02/2021

The first sharing class: Are you a landscape architect?

The first group shared a lot of useful knowledge through a kind of level-breaking game, which is very interesting. It helped me understand the characteristics and abilities of a professional landscape architect in Hong Kong, and explained the professional code of conduct that we need to pay attention to.

(It’s really amazing to know that there are so many sub-regions belong to IFLA)

Also, we had a company inside view today, I was really curious about the working environment of the landscape architects in Hong Kong before, now I get some basic understanding about edag, edag is a company with a history of forty years. It has been advancing on a journey full of exploration, mastering master planning of different scales, including urban design and landscape design, from luxurious and private high-end villa residences, commercial spaces to urban parks etc. Ringo showed us a lot, many thanks!

03/02/2021

Group meeting, summarize the interviewees and assign interviewees according to different undergraduate backgrounds of group members.

28/01/2021

Each group is asked to introduce each other to the group members, which is very interesting, different from the usual self-introduction, by introducing your group members, we can better understand each other and discover each other’s shining points.

27/01/2021

Group meeting, summarize basic material from each group member and determine the presentation framework.

22/01/2021

First group meeting, let each group member to collect material according to the type of job position.
